John Badcock (1742- 1784) was an affluent gentleman of Penzance, His grandfather was Collector of Customs at Penzance. His grandmother Parthesia Keigwin of Mousehole. He was Steward of the Isles of Scilly and closely associated with other notable families of Penwith. By marriage to the Robyns family, builders of Treneere, also marriage and childhood friendship to John Price (1738 – 1797). Price was a prominent figure in the life of Penzance - councillor, alderman, mayor, high sheriff and landowner. He erected an impressive and costly, marble memorial to John Badcock in Paul church, such was his affection for his childhood friend.
