Ralph Todd (1856-1932): Primrose Day (1885). Penlee House, Penzance
The 'Primrose League', founded in 1883, was dedicated to defending the traditional features of British life and to improving living and working conditions for the masses. The League was based on the ideals of Benjamin Disraeli and took his favourite flower as its symbol. Primrose Day was celebrated on the 19th of April, the anniversary of his death.
